Book Review | Rivers of London

Hello Everyone,

I thought I would do a book review for you all today. This review is on Rivers of London by Ben Aaronovitch.

The story begins with Peter, a young police officer in London who, one evening, meets Nicholas Wallpenny, a ghost from the past who claims to have witnessed a crime. Suddenly his life is turned upside down as strange criminal events start occurring all over the city. He then meets Inspector Nightingale who becomes his mentor and teaches him the art of magic. Could this help explain the weird events and happenings in Peter's life?

Time to Blossom - how to update your Winter Wardrobe for Spring.

Hello Everyone,

As winter finally comes to an end and the first signs of spring appear, your outfits should do the same.

Unfortunately we can’t just flick a switch and have our whole wardrobe brightened and updated, but, with a few small touches, your winter clothes won’t seem so cold any-more!

Floral Scarves

Take an average
winter outfit of jeans and a jumper and pep it up with a light floral-print scarf.
Scarves are a super easy way to brighten up an outfit
and of course keep you nice as warm as Spring can still be quite chilly!

Winter Essentials

Hello Everyone,

Today I'm going to share with you; my top 5 winter essentials!

1: A lip balm

A lip balm is pretty much essential all year round but particularly in winter when your lips get dry and chapped. I like the Burt's Bees lip balms and also Maybelline's Babylips when I'm wearing make up.

2. A warm coat

Seems obvious but so many people don't wear warm enough clothing in the winter time! I love my super cuddly parka from the Indigo Collection in M&S. It's a really gorgeous dark khaki colour and has a teddy bear lining and a removable fur trim.

3. Hat

80% of your body heat goes out through your head so a hat is really important for keeping yourself warm! I love my Reindeer hat from River Island and my 1920s style Wool hat from M&S.

4: Smoothies

This may seem like an odd choice for winter essentials but having a smoothie gives you a super boost of vitamin C helping fight off colds and flu.

I love Innocent Smoothies as they are natural, tasty and come in a wide range of flavours!

5: Boots

Everyone needs Boots to keep your tootsies warm during the Winter months. I wear my trusty black Dr Martens. They are really comfy and stylish too.

4 Easy Healthy Breakfast ideas + tips!

Hello Everyone!

I thought I would do a different kind of post today.

Part of my New Years Resolution is to eat healthier and one thing I always struggle with is a healthy breakfast.

I have decided that a slice of charred toast or a bowl of soggy cereal packed with sugar and E numbers isn't the right way start to my day.

Before I begin I would like to stress that you should never skip breakfast (unless told to by your doctor for health reasons).

You may think that skipping breakfast is fine and will help you lose weight. This is totally wrong. Breakfast helps to kick start your day and is designed to keep you going all the way till lunch.

Running on zero won't only make you tired and irritable, it will also make your metabolism freak out. Without food your metabolism will begin to store fat. So contrary to popular belief skipping breakfast will help you gain weight not lose it.

Another important thing to remember is to hydrate yourself in the morning. have a glass of water when you wake up and perhaps some organic fruit juice with breakfast.

 If you are going to have coffee (decaf if you must) or tea then make sure you have a big glass of water with it.

I know that breakfast can be tough especially if you're nervous, in a rush or just not hungry.

 So I've decided to share with you my 4 Easy Healthy Breakfast Ideas.

1. Super Bowl! -super,scrumptious and all in one bowl! change it up with whatever fruit are in season.

You will need:
- 1 banana
- some blueberries
- seasonal fruit of your choice
- organic granola (with no added sugars!)
- organic low fat Greek style yoghurt.

= Chop up the banana and put in a bowl with the rest of the fruit (stoned/peeled etc)
= Pour 2 tablespoons of Greek style yoghurt on top.
= Sprinkle with a handful of your favourite granola.

2. Healthy Bacon Butty - A healthy twist on the classic, good for those looking for a savoury brekkie!

You will need:
- a brown pitta bread
- a ripe avocado
- 1 slice of free range bacon.

= Grill your bacon and set aside. (do not fry!)
= Lightly Toast your pitta bread.
= Peel the avocado and slice. Place in a bowl and mash into a chunky spread.
= Cut your pitta bread in half and slice down the centre of each half creating 'pockets'.
= Spread a layer of avocado into each pocket.
= Cut your bacon in two and put a piece in each pocket.

3. Fruity Whizz!- Simple, yummy and packed with vitamins!

You will need:
- 1 banana
- a handful of strawberries
- a handful of blueberries.
- organic apple juice

= Slice the banana and top and slice the strawberries.
= Pour all the fruit into a food processor or blender.
= Add a generous glug of apple juice.
= Secure the lid and blend till smooth.
= Pour into a glass an tah - dah!

4.  Healthy Cheese and biscuits. - a healthy twist on a popular snack.

You will need
- Nairn's rough oatcakes (or oatcakes of your choice)
- low fat cream cheese
- organic cucumber

= cut 8 slices of cucumber.
= grab 4 oatcakes ( or more if you're particularly peckish!)
= spread a layer of cream cheese onto each oat cake.
= pop 2 slices of cucumber on top of each one.
 I really hope you enjoyed this type of post, I will be doing more in the future.

Soap and Glory

Hello Everyone!

I have made part of my New Years Resolution to blog on a regular basis.

So I'm going to keep to that promise (hopefully!) by starting the New Year with a blog post.

So for those of you that don't know, Soap and Glory is a collection in Boots that sell a wide range of bath and shower products and cosmetics.

They are known for their quirky retro pink packaging ( which by now you should know is me all over! ) that makes them stand out amongst the endless aisles of similar products.

I personally love Soap and Glory and I have mentioned it previously in my haul post.

 I own quite a few Soap and Glory products ; the Clean On Me shower wash, the daily moisturiser, the vitamin face wash, the Girligo body spray and the Hand Food hand cream.

 I have also had the Sugar Crush body wash but have used it all up!

 My favourite collection is the Original Pink Range, which includes Hand Food and Clean On Me, as it smells amazing (like roses and peach!)  and is just so vintage and gorgeous!

My favourite Soap and Glory product would have to be Hand Food as it is such a good hand cream and smells delicious! I would definitely recommend getting your hands on that! (ooh look a pun!)

Soap and Glory can be a little pricey at times but in my opinion it's totally worth it and the products last me a really long time!

I can't wait to add some more S&G products to my collection and I'll be sure to let you know when I do!
