Make up look // Simple Sparkles

Hello Everybody,

Today I have decided to do a beauty post and share with you all my everyday make up routine for the Christmas season. I have been wearing this look non stop and love adding something different to an otherwise average look. By using the Soap and Glory Lid Stuff palette in 'Off the Wallflowers' with They're Real mascara I've created a simple but sparkly eye. Coupled with a peachy blush, strong brow and my go-to lipstick. Every day sorted.

I really hope you've enjoyed this post, I will  get back to regular posting once the Christmas madness has died down.

Christmas Gift Guide: Stocking Fillers

Hello Everybody,

So now the 'C' word is officially in use I thought I would do a Christmas themed post - (because why not?!) I don't know about you, but I love buying gifts more than receiving them, because it means I get to trawl through endless websites brimming with seasonal offers I can't refuse. My favourite kind of presents are Stocking Fillers, ever so cute and a tad silly, stocking fillers can even be 'luxurified' (yes that is now a word) for the more discerning recipient.

1. Socks
You can't go wrong with socks. Mum, Dad, best friend, mortal enemy, distant-relative-that-you've-never-even-met-before - they're bound to wear socks at some point in the near future. Now, I know what your thinking. Socks are boring right? Who wants socks for Christmas? Think again.

My favourite being these adorable christmas pudding socks with ickle smiling faces adorning the rim.

cutesocks.yesplease.com

You can find cute, fun, and super comfy socks anywhere and everywhere. Just avoid the scratchy ones, nothing says 'I don't like you' like cheap and nasty socks.

2. A novelty item
A bit of fun is always appreciated and novelty items are just the ticket. Pretty much every high street store has their own novelty section, I think personalising your choice of stocking fillers really adds a special touch. Instead of buying mass market, think of something they're really fond of and go down that route.

If you're a fellow animal lover you'll love Topshop's adorable selection of hotties. (there's a unicorn one! squee!)

- topshop.com/unicornsyayyy

3. Make Up
Make up just has that knack of being so easy to wrap and fits perfectly into any stocking. This is completely down to personal taste but I love the Soap and Glory gift sets. They look so beautiful and are great products.

This Santa Gloss comes in it's own candy cane packaging. I REPEAT - CANDY CANE. It's too adorablely christmassy (wow fab grammar) for words. Plus their glosses always get amazing reviews.

- CANDYCANE.com

4. Book
I'm a complete bookworm and a sucker for a gritty detective novel. Although it's worth saying, if books aren't your thing then there are plenty of things that fall under this category, cook books, annuals, fashion diaries - whatever floats your boat.

The book I've chosen is cute, coffee table comedy. And it's about pugs. Obviously.

-coffeetablecomedy.hmm

5. Mug
There's nothing better than a warm cup of something on a cold winter's evening. There are lots of different mug sets with all sorts of goodies tucked inside as well as one's on their lonesome.

I am a huge fan of the Mr Men books so I couldn't resist this when I saw it.

-MRMEN.hotchocolate

6. A bit of a treat
I love all things Body Shop, especially at Christmas. Their gift sets are divine and such good value for money. This is the Shea butter Polar bear Christmas gift set.

7. A Christmas Jumper
It's a classic. Christmas jumpers have been around since the dawn of time and are a necessitiy in this jolly season. I love this Topshop one because it's not too boring and not too in your face. Perfect for dressing up or down or just wearing over your PJs.

My 16th Birthday

Hello Everybody,

I know, it's been a while. My WiFi has been all over the place recently and we just had a new router installed, not to mention I'm up to my eyeballs in essays, scripts and all things Christmas.
So, to make up for my little break I've got some pictures from my birthday last week. I've included some of the bits I received as presents too, so it is a sort of haul. And of course the CAKE! (which with a heavy heart, I must tell you, is no longer with us) - Enjoy!

I hope you've enjoyed this post, let me know what's been the best present you've ever received.

New hair: I got a fringe?!

Hello Everybody,

Long time no see, eh? If you weren't aware, I have been away recently. I went to London for a few days last week and was unable to post. (and for some reason scheduled posting doesn't work -- Blogger sort it out!) But (and it's a big but) before I went away, I went to the hairdressers and got my hair sorted out. I had wanted to get a fringe for a while and decided on the Jenna Coleman/Bella Thorne type. I'm not going to go into details about the goings on because you know how much I loathe hairdressers, but I managed to come out looking like this! Nifty ain't it? I wan't too sure at first but it has really grown on me! (pun so not intended)
Unfortunately it can't looked beautifully blow-dried everyday. Saying that, I have taken to straightening my fringe in the morning so it doesn't turn into a big ball of fluff throughout the day. Well, less of a big ball of fluff. (you do not want to catch me in a shower of rain!)

I really hope you have enjoyed this post, let me know what you think of my new 'do (nicely, mind) and if you have ever undergone a drastic hair change, be sure to let me know!

Autumn Trends: Dark Lips and Black Velvet

Hello Everybody,

Firstly, I must apologise for my lack of posts recently,I have been super busy with rehearsals and the likes but now I'm back and ready to blog. (yay!)

Today's post is going to be about my two most favourite trends this Autumn. Dark lips and black velvet. For this I've chosen Topshop's 'Beguiled' lipstick which is a very wearable dark purple. Even though it looks quite scary here it really doesn't come out as dark when applied, which I must admit I was slightly disappointed about. More of a deep fuchsia, though you can layer it to create a deeper colour. (as long as you're not planning on eating anything any time soon!) Never fear, it's still one of my favourite lipsticks and I've been wearing it non stop this season.

If you know me, you know how much I love my bows and when I saw this one in Topshop I couldn't resist. It's not actually classified as a hair accessory which I find rather odd (what else would you do with it?!) and comes with a safety pin attached. After some fairly straight-forward mangling with a kirby grip or two I sorted it out. I adore how the texture adds a whole new dimension to the look, not to mention it's so soft and cuddly too. Dark, daring and a little bit glamorous.

Just to note, I'm wearing red lipstick here, not purple!
I really hope you've enjoyed reading this post, what's your favourite trend this Autumn?

Remember to follow this blog on bloglovin as we're getting super close to 100 Nymphs (squee!).

More Autumn here.

Sweater Weather TAG

Hello Everyone,
Since tags seem to be incredibly popular on my blog and I enjoy answering the questions so much, I thought it was only fitting to do The Sweater Weather TAG, considering the climate has recently developed into definite "sweater weather". (hooray!)

1. Favourite candle scent?

I don't really burn candles because I'm paranoid I'll burn the place down ( #funfactaboutme) Although I do really like the smell of a crackling wood fire (in a fire place obviously..) and also the smell of damp leaves and hot coco.

2. Coffee, tea or hot chocolate?

All three please. I drink green tea everyday and I enjoy a nice mug of hot chocolate of coffee once in a while too.

3. What's the best Autumn memory you have?

Probably picking out a Halloween costume or melting marshmallows on the fire.

4. Which make-up trend do you prefer: winged eye liner or dark lips?

This is really hard but I think it has to be dark lips. I love wearing a dark lip. I'm desperate to get my hands on a really deep purple.

5. What do you want to be for Halloween?

Queen Elsa from frozen..LET IT GOOO, LET IT GOOO. (is that sad? I don't think it's that sad and plus I'll seize any chance to get into costume)

6. Hats or scarves?

Scarves, or snoods to be specific. Hats mess up my already messy hair.

7. Most worn jumper?

My grey and white owl print jumper from New Look because it's warm and snuggly.

8. Favourite Autumn nail polish?

This is tough because I have a love-hate (mostly hate) relationship with nail polish because I can't seem to find one that does what it says on the tin. Colour wise I love deep berry or burgundy.

9. Skinny jeans or leggings?

I live in leggings. For comfort, ease, style and you can even get fur lined leggings!

10. Boots or uggs?

I live in a very damp Irish climate and to this day have never understood the Ugg boot craze ( they get wet ALL the time and they look like hooves?) and so I must go with plain old boots.

I really hope you have enjoyed this post, let me know what your favourite thing about Autumn is.

The Liebster Award

Hello everyone,

This is a long awaited post. I must have been nominated at least 5 or 6 times. I am of course talking about the Liebster award, which is a way for us smaller blogs to spread alittle love in the blogging community. Most recently I've been nominated by Amy (amyslittleworld) and Amy (atouchofpastels), so thank you girls.

I'm now going to go ahead and answer the questions created by Amy (amyslittleworld) as she was the most recent blogger to tag me, before making up some questions of my own. So - without further ado - let's get started!

1. Would you rather read a book or watch a DVD?
This is really tough because of course it depends on which book/DVD you're talking about. I think if it was a really good mystery then a book but anything less thrilling perhaps a DVD.

2. Scariest dream you've ever had?
I don't know about scariest but the most memorable dream I had was when I was about six and I still remember it very vividly now. I was in a big cave and the rat from Barbie's the Nutcracker had grown into a giant and had his mouth wide open and was encouraging me to step inside. My mum was selling balloons by the entrance and was also encouraging me to head on in. needless to say I had no intention of going in. That's what you get when you ask questions like that. It's a wonder nobody's locked me up and thrown away the key!

3. How did you start blogging and why?
I started blogging as a way to communicate with my Instagram followers and just anyone who would ask me for recommendations or fashion/beauty advice. I just googled 'how to start a blog' and up popped blogger and the rest, as you say, is history.

4. Where would be your dream place to move?
Probably London because it's just so exciting there and absolutely brimming with interesting people and places. Also, I was born in London so it really does feel like home. I like Paris too but I feel the language barrier might be a problem, non?

5. Who are your idols?
Roald Dahl and Tim Burton. Creative Genius' - 'nuff said.

6. What are you most afraid of?
Not having a voice and people not seeing the real me.

7. Favourite film and TV show?
Flushed away is my favourite film and I think either Doctor Who or Sherlock is my favourite TV show.

8. If you had the opportunity to change something about your self would you? If yes, why?
I don't think I would but if I had to, I would want to be less critical of myself.

9. Worst teacher you've ever had?
Oh there have been so many. Why, you could populate a country with the amount of awful teaching I've received. I can't name and shame but there have been so many, I can't possibly choose. Also how do you interpret 'worst'. As in worst personality? worst at teaching? worst at actually being sane? (oh yes, there have been some nutters)

10. What's your biggest pet peeve?
When people sneeze and cough and litter and don't listen. LIKE JUST GET A TISSUE AND PUT IT IN THE BIN AND BE NICE AND LISTEN TO OTHERS. (I can get quite het up, as you can see)

11. Summer or Winter?
Winter without a doubt. Fires. Christmas. Dark Lipsticks. Hot chocolate. Snuggly coats. need I say more?

Now I've answered my questions it's your turn!

1.If you could have any animal as a pet what would it be?
2. If you could be fluent in one other language what would it be?
3.What is your saddest memory?
4.What is your dream career?
5.What's your favourite hobby?
6.What quality do you admire in another person?
7.Favourite book?
8.If you could live in another era would you? if so which one?
9. If you could be a mermaid or a fairy which would you choose?
10.What's your idea of ultimate humiliation?
11.What makes you smile?

I nominate Liv,  Lucy, Coral and Char and of course anybody else who would like to answer these questions feel free to use me as your nominator!

Last but not least, here are the rules-

-You must answer all 11 questions given by the person who nominated you.
-You must link back to the person who nominated you and display the award on your blog (there are a number of different styles if you just search 'Liebster Award' in Google images).
-After completing the questions, you must nominate 11 bloggers (I know I didn't but I think this rule is flexible!) with under 200 followers and give them 11 questions of your choice.
-You cannot nominate the person who nominated you!

City ventures and shoplifting fun | Scrapbook Snaps

Hello Everyone,

I'm going to do another Scrapbook Snaps post today. The last one was really popular and I enjoy adding a more casual slant to my lifestyle posts.

Today's pictures are coupled with an little anecdote from when I went into the city for rehearsals and the only bus was 4 hours beforehand (hooray for public transport) so I had a lot of time to kill. Firstly I went into Debenhams to go to the ladies where a tiny old man was wandering around looking for the exit. #totallynormal

I then came out and picked up some food for later on in M&S (grabbing the one remaining chicken sandwich) before heading down to Topshop.

I went into Topshop and wandered and gazed longingly at all the new collection and then spotted this gorgeous dress. (see picture) I had wanted to get this dress ages ago when it first came out for prom season but not having anywhere to wear it to and not having any money, I decided against the idea.

But..and it's a big but - this dress was the only one on the reduced rack. Reduced from a whopping €103 to €27! And it was in my size. So I decided to try it on - surely a little thing like that can't hurt?
Well that sealed it, I just had to get the dress. So, using a combination of my lunch money and bus fare, I bought it! Although at the time it probably wasn't the wisest decision, I am glad I bought it.

I then headed into the art gallery (oooh!) and wasted some time in there looking at some very unhappy regal portraits. To be fair there were some nice landscapes too. I then popped to Costa and scraped together tuppence for a peach lemonade. (it was roasting!)

I then strolled back to Debenhams with my now very heavy bag ( I should really invest in a rucksack) before going to rehearsals. That was where the real fun began. So I walked into Debenhams, as one does, and set off the security alarms. I thought nothing of it and reassured myself that I am not a thief and therefore have nothing to worry about. I then walked into the beauty section where they had cunningly put another set of alarms (WOOP WOOP WOOP - that's the alarm btw.) I convinced myself their must be something wrong with the alarm and walked back through it, setting it off again. I was slightly panicked at this point so decided the best option was to get out ASAP. So I strode back out the entrance, setting off another set of alarms, and quickly off into the crowd, looking impossibly guilty. Not only was this a huge inconvenience, it made absolutely no sense! And the evil glares from passers by! I might as well of had 'shoplifter' tattooed on my forehead.

When I finally got home after an hour wait in the bus station surrounded by dodgy youths, and another hour and a half bus ride home, I opened my bag to reveal a big fat security tag left on my dress.

I just like to thank Topshop for an eventful and publicly humiliating time all thanks to your dozy cashier.

Nice view from the bus at least!

I really hope you have enjoyed this post, would you have done the same?!

High End Splurges

Hello Everyone,

Recently I have splurged on some high end products. Oops. I don't usually buy a lot of high end products. As much as I'd love to, they always come with a high end price tag and can be quite tricky to source. So I slink back to Boots and find a drug-store alternative, until now. I have yet to do a blog post focusing on purely high end products so I have decided today to share my high end splurges with you. So we can all share in the luxuriousness of this very post. (or give my purse a breather at least)

Naked Skin by Urban Decay
I had done quite a bit of research into this foundation. My L'Oréal true match was sticking to my dry patches and had begun oxidising (which when you're pale, is a complete DISASTER). My BB cream wasn't cutting it either. So I began the hunt for a new foundation. I wanted medium coverage, not so light that it might as well not be there but not cakey and heavy either. I was essentially looking for a good, solid everyday foundation. I was also looking for something a bit more skin-friendly as I was concerned that all the chemicals in my other foundations were leading to break outs. A natural finish, very pale shade and easy to blend. Nothing else would do. So I scoured the internet and compiled all the reviews to reach one verdict - Naked Skin was the one for me. I strode into Brown Thomas, batting away the 'Do you want me to colour match you?' (never again) 'Do you need a powder/eye-shadow/lip gloss with that?' and managed to walk out with Urban Decay's Naked Skin in the shade 0.5 . I have only used this once so far, so I will save my thoughts for a proper review once I have analysed its pros and cons.

Bare Minerals Prime Time
I had bought the Bare Minerals starter kit last year, mainly for the foundation and it included a sample version of Bare Minerals Prime Time. Hands down the best primer I have ever used. I had 3 hours of sweaty rehearsal, lunch, shopping, a full show and nothing budged. So as I was saving this sample for special cases only, I decided to go out and buy its cheaper rival the Body Shop's InstaBlur primer. Unfortunately, I am not a fan of this primer. I might as well be putting Bonjela on my face (that's what it feels like). It does very little and you need lots to cover your whole face. That was the deal breaker, I caved in and bought the 30ml Prime Time. Good-bye melting make up!

Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm
I bought this at a Spa day when I was in Ediburgh. Ooh Niamh, I didn't know you went on Spa Days! Well, I don't but this was a one off opportunity - to have my privacy completely and utterly invaded. I ate lunch in the Hotel bar wearing nothing but a dressing gown - need I say more? Anyway, after the treatments and healthy special spa lunch and plenty of whale noises I decided to have a browse of the skincare stand. After reading lots of reviews online about how terrible I am for using (dun dun dunnn) make-up wipes, I decided to treat my skin to a cleansing balm. Claiming to remove all make up and daily grime as well as boost your skin with everything that is good in the world. AND it smelt of geraniums and yummy things. As it happened I had completely run out of make up remover (preparation is key) and needed some anyway. I strolled out the main entrance (fully clothed now of course) swinging my Elemis bag at passers by, convinced I would wake up with a whole new face. It doesn't exactly do that but it does smell nice.

I really hope you have enjoyed this post, let me know if you've splurged on anything recently.

Also, If you have any suggestions or requests or particular types of blog posts you enjoy reading then make sure you leave a lovely comment here and I will try my best to write some for you.

OOTD: Maxi retro

Hello Everyone,

Today I am posting an Outfit of the Day from my trip to Scotland. (note the tartan bow) We were staying in a B&B right on the beach so as you can imagine, it was rather windy.
The sun was being absolutely awkward so it was super hard to take pictures and as a result, please excuse the lighting and my squinty-ness!

We were off to dinner at a posh-ish Hotel so I reckoned it was the perfect time to whip out the maxi skirt. It was also festival season so baring that in mind I went for a fun but functional sort of look. I wanted to make a statement and go all out with my outfit by teaming a monochrome gingham bralet with a tomato red maxi skirt. Teamed with my vintage necklace, Topshop heels and retro print bomber, I was good to go. Bold, brazen and of course gloriously retro.

I promise I'm not frowning - just helplessly squinting!

Gingham bralet - Topshop
Tomato Maxi Skirt - M&S
Bag - Topshop
Cameo necklace - Farrell and Brown
Chunky sandals - Topshop
Tartan Bow - River Island

A close up - looking slightly less windswept

Lipstick - S&G perfect day.

I really hope you have enjoyed this post, have you embraced the fashion massive that is the maxi skirt?
